Kruger Rand turns 50
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Kruggerrand, the South African Mint and Prestige Bullion has tasked us [Breinstorm Brand Architects] to commission and curate an exhibition of artworks that will mark popular and iconic historical milestones over the past half century.
We are asking 6 artists to each to submit a budget (and descriptor of the artistic medium you would work in) for an artwork to be exhibited as part of the Krugerrand Golden Jubilee stand at the World Money Fair in beginning of February 2017. The works are also earmarked for exhibition at the Johannesburg Art Fair later in 2017.
The size of the panel each artwork will be installed inside, or in front of in case of 3D pieces, is 1802mm high x 1150mm wide. 3D pieces may be a maximum depth of 400 mm deep.
You will be given a theme of an important world event over the last 50 years. The works will form part of a timeline of the 50 years since the introduction of the Krugerrand
1. First heart transplant
2. Usain Bolt breaking the world record.
3. Mohamed Ali boxing fight against Joe Frasier
4. Fall of the Berlin Wall
5. Dolly the sheep
6. Discovery of Homo Naledi
